Beschreibung

Vines or grapes (Vitis vinifera) belong to the vine family (Vitaceae). They are climbing plants and can also be grown well in your own garden. In addition to the classic grapes, there are also table grapes, which are particularly suitable for direct consumption. The grapes can be found in the colors yellow-green, rust-red or blue-violet. The flowering period is between mid-May and mid-July. For their growth they need a warm, sunny location. In cooler locations, a sheltered position is recommended, as the grapes ripen late. In terms of soil, vines are undemanding and thrive in most soils.

Herkunft:

Mediterranean and Near East.

Anbautipps

For planting vines is well suited time in mid-April. The vine is planted in a hole 50 cm deep so that the grafting point is above ground. Then press the soil well and water well. Regular watering is important, as the grapes have a high water requirement. Avoid waterlogging at all costs, as grapes do not tolerate it. Once a year, the vine should be provided with some compost. Regular spring and summer pruning is necessary, as the grapes form on new shoots. In addition, leaves that strongly shade the grapes should be removed, otherwise they delay the ripening process. In winter, as frost protection, mound the vine with a little soil or compost and possibly cover with fir brushwood or fleece (especially young vines). Need climbing help. Vines are self-pollinators. Can also be grown in pots or tubs.
