Estima potatoes are considered versatile and are particularly suitable for dishes where a firm, cooked potato texture is required, such as in salads or some soups. Estima is also sold as a baked potato and has a mild flavor that complements other flavors. Estima is one of the most popular potatoes grown in the UK.
Non hybrid
Not frost resistant
As soon as the potato tubers have been delivered, you should unpack them and start the germination process. Place them in a single layer in a seed tray without compost and put them in a bright, cool and frost-free place. This can be done about six weeks before planting out. The early varieties can be planted out under a frost protection fleece, but the later varieties should only be planted out when the worst frosts have passed in your region - this is generally mid-March to mid-April. Dig a trench 8 to 13 cm deep and apply a general purpose fertilizer to the bottom of the trench. Plant the potato tubers in the trench about 30 cm apart. Take care not to push the sprouts off the tubers and keep the sprouts pointing upwards. Then cover them lightly with soil. When the plants are about 20 cm high, mound the soil around the plant so that the soil covers the bottom two-thirds of the plant. Keeping the plants well watered will help to increase the yield and combat potato scab.
