Storing food

A checklist for the correct storage of food - for a well-stocked pantry, even without electricity.

Fruit and vegetables

  • Store storable fruit/vegetables correctly (varies depending on type and variety)
  • Boil or dehydrate fruit/vegetables
  • Ferment, boil or rent root vegetables
  • Boil, dehydrate or ferment fruit vegetables
  • Dry herbs and leafy vegetables
  • Hang cabbage upside down or rent

Store in a dry place (room temperature)

  • Seeds
  • Onions
  • Garlic
  • Nuts
  • Beans
  • Peas
  • Corn
  • Pumpkin (preferably store in a cool place)

Milk, eggs & meat

  • Boil eggs or soak them in slaked lime solution (3 tablespoons of slaked lime / L or 2.1 pt of water)
  • Process milk into cheese -
    Boil, freeze, cure or smoke meat
