A checklist for the correct storage of food - for a well-stocked pantry, even without electricity.
Fruit and vegetables
- Store storable fruit/vegetables correctly (varies depending on type and variety)
- Boil or dehydrate fruit/vegetables
- Ferment, boil or rent root vegetables
- Boil, dehydrate or ferment fruit vegetables
- Dry herbs and leafy vegetables
- Hang cabbage upside down or rent
Store in a dry place (room temperature)
- Seeds
- Onions
- Garlic
- Nuts
- Beans
- Peas
- Corn
- Pumpkin (preferably store in a cool place)
Milk, eggs & meat
- Boil eggs or soak them in slaked lime solution (3 tablespoons of slaked lime / L or 2.1 pt of water)
- Process milk into cheese -
Boil, freeze, cure or smoke meat
