Why You Should Join Fryd Lab
What is Fryd Lab?
Fryd Lab is a citizen-science space inside the Fryd app where gardeners run quick micro-experiments, log simple observations, and share results. Together we build a living dataset that improves planting advice for everyone. It is free to join and designed for real gardens, not lab conditions.
Why does it matter?
Generic tips and seed-packet dates are broad averages, while seasons and microclimates shift from place to place. When many gardeners record what they did and how it grew, patterns emerge: true local planting windows, stronger or weaker varieties, timing cues from phenology and soil. We turn these signals into clear, location-aware guidance that updates as new data comes in.
Why should gardeners care?
You get fewer failed sowings, clearer timing, and simple checklists that match your conditions. Each task takes 1–3 minutes in the app, and your input helps unlock better advice for your garden and your region. Take part, see results, grow with more confidence.

FAQ
How do I join Fryd Lab?
Open the Fryd app, go to “Fryd Lab,” choose an experiment or activity, and start.
Do I need any special skills?
No. Tasks are simple and explained step by step. If you garden, you are ready.
How much time do I need?
Most activities take 2–5 minutes for a quick rating or note. Some projects run across the season, but your contributions stay short.
Is it free?
Yes. Participation and results are free and available in the free version of Fryd.
Can I join without the app?
Not yet. Fryd Lab is currently available only in the iOS and Android app. A web app version is planned.
How will my data be used?
We store as little personal data as necessary and analyse responses together with partners. We publish only aggregated results, such as traffic light summaries of poor, average, good or regional patterns. We also release an anonymised dataset as open data under an open licence so researchers, media, and the community can review, visualise, and reuse the results. We do not share data for advertising.
