Tonight I harvested the tomato and bell pepper plants. 1 tomato plant: 2.3 kg, and 5 bell pepper plants: 3.6 kg. Photo 1
This year, for the first time, I planted my two bell pepper plants in the greenhouse before the “Ice Saints” on April 20, 2026. Since well-hardened plants can easily withstand temperatures down to -4°C. And I planted the rest, as always, after the “Ice Saints” if the weather didn’t cooperate. Here’s what I learned this year.
The plants planted before the “Ice Saints” had...
- no problems with heat waves
- a later harvest, but with much larger fruits and a much higher yield
- were harvested 3 times this year
The bell peppers planted after the “Ice Saints” had....
- problems with the heat waves 🥵😞
- the harvest was 3 weeks earlier, but the fruits weren’t as big and there weren’t as many of them.
I’ll do it this way again next year: plant some before the Ice Saints and the rest after the Ice Saints.
