Today I caught a Giant King Dragonfly laying eggs! Isn't that a beautiful photo? Then there's the Field Cuckoo Bumblebee—Observation.org has finally accepted my identification as definitive for the Bumblebee Challenge! Then today, the mourning rose beetle also landed on the giant scaly-headed plant. It was hard to get the whole beetle in a photo because it kept doing handstands. And it kept getting used as a stepping stone by various bumblebees 😀 But that didn’t bother it 😂 Then there were tiny masked bees on the wild carrot, and also on the wild carrot, a slender-waisted wasp—probably the gout wasp. It’ll surely show up soon at the wild bee nesting aid, since it’s a cuckoo wasp that uses its ovipositor to bore through a wild bee’s finished nesting tube and then lays its eggs inside. And that last photo shows a stone bumblebee once again. Allium sphaerocephalum is blooming, so there will be plenty of insects swarming around it in the near future!
