Meadow sage and catnip are currently the hotspots for wild bees. Photo 1 shows the blue-green mason bee, Photo 2 the deadwood leafcutter bee, and Photo 3 an older specimen of the red mason bee. It never ceases to fascinate me: the first two bellflower blooms of the nettle-leaved bellflower opened yesterday or today, and already the first bellflower scissor bee has arrived. They love to take a nap in their favorite flower—just like here 😀 I found a pretty old brimstone butterfly there on the first flower of the bearded carnation; especially from the other side in the second photo, you can clearly see that it’s probably been through a lot! And then today, near a pile of dead wood where I’d long suspected a hedgehog was hiding, I discovered this one. I wanted to lure it closer with some food so I could assess its physical condition. But it didn’t eat anything—it was probably looking for a mate. There are quite a few hedgehogs in my neighborhood, so he or she is sure to find one sooner or later 😀
