Blueberry 'Spartan' is the ideal choice for all lovers of delicious soft fruit who want to enjoy it without much care. This blueberry bush is exceptionally uncomplicated and is ideally suited for gardening beginners. The spherical berries of Vaccinium corymbosum 'Spartan' present themselves enticingly in strong blue and are ready for harvest from mid-July. They are firm, juicy, sweet-tart and surprisingly large. Harvesting the fruit is an irresistible experience. Harvested fresh from their own bush, the berries taste incomparably fresh and aromatic. Blueberry 'Spartan' grows as a semi-shrub to a height of 140 cm to two meters. In width, the plant develops to one to one and a half meters. An imposing sight, typical of the American blueberries to which 'Spartan' belongs. They develop higher than their other relatives. This blueberry variety fruits on the two- and three-year-old shoots. In the first year, it is recommended to stimulate branching by light pruning. When the plant is older and well branched, it is sufficient to cut out old wood completely from time to time. Then new shoots will form and the blueberry will not overage. For good fertilization, the gardener plants different varieties near the self-fruiting Vaccinium corymbosum 'Spartan'. A full sun location will promote fruit yield. The taste of the fruit also benefits from many hours of sunshine, and sweetness increases significantly. The flesh of the roundish, dark blue fruits is white. Only the fruit skin contains the blue coloring anthocyanins. The blueberries shine enticingly from between the foliage. The berries are arranged in a cluster on short stems.
