After vacation, the best thing to do is see what’s ready to harvest! Now we can also play a round of Galician roulette. The Mara des Bois is bearing plenty of fruit, and the birds have even left a few blueberries behind. I’d stuck two or three supermarket potatoes—which had accidentally sprouted—into the compost; most of them were eaten, but I did get a small harvest. The blackberries are in full swing, and the aronia is bearing fruit for the first time. The crabapple tree is groaning under the weight of so many apples this year, and despite thinning them out in June, I’ve now propped up a branch on the Gravensteiner. And there are flowers, too!
