I saw this at a market over the weekend. I thought it looked interesting. Since we hardly have any of these in our garden, but I really like eating them, I was actually tempted. 😅 But in the end, it stayed on the shelf.
Another question, though: when is actually the best time of day to plant? Does that vary with the seasons?
I still have a few things to plant out, and I’m tempted to do it first thing in the morning, but then the water can evaporate all day long, and sometimes the sun beats down on them directly.
It’s hottest at noon, but there’s still plenty of light for them to settle in, and there isn’t quite as much evaporation.
And I rarely get around to it in the evening.
How do you handle it when you have the choice?

An heißen Tagen lieber über Nacht und tagsüber vielleicht noch beschatten und an moderaten Tagen morgens.
Depends on: eigenes Zeitfenster und Pflanze bzw. Zielort. Natürlich am besten bei bedecktem Himmel… Kommt die Pflanze in einen Topf, kann man es ja steuern
Vorher Wässern und Kompost ins pflanzloch würde natürlich helfen…
Aber Opfer gibt es trotzdem immer wieder…
I did not know you could eat it. But I do know that it spreads like wildfire and unless you want it forever and ever, wherever forever you shouldn't plant that anywhere. It will absolutely takeover.
I agree with others...overcast days or in the cooler part of the day. Be sure to give a good drink to help it recover.

I would send every root leaf and bud if I could and it will still rise next spring. Ugh!

Aber er stört mich nur da, wo ich ihn wirklich nicht haben will (im Gemüsegarten und bei Blumenstauden). Aber KräuterMaxi hat es schon gesagt: man kann die Blätter gut essen (vor allem die jungen) - einfach wie Spinat oder man kann Pflanzenjauche daraus machen. Insofern denke ich mir immer - die Pflanze will mit ihrer starken Wüchsigkeit nur dafür sorgen, dass ich immer genug Essen und Jauche hab 😅
I've never eaten it. Its so prolific when I pull it up I feel a little guilty putting it in the city compost bins because I'm certain it doesn't need much to replicate. Even the rabbits hop by it like 'no thanks.' It was here when I bought the house so I'm stuck with it.
I saw that post but I've never seen the all green variety so I didn't recognize it. I went back and read the thread. Made me laugh out loud for real now that I have understanding.
Ich wusste nicht, dass es Silber-Giersch gibt... falls es Dir auf den ankäme, könnte ich das Fingerjucken vor dem Topf verstehen (schmeckt der anders als der normale Giersch?). Solltest Du je-mals wirklich Giersch haben wollen (Vorsicht - Jdub hat recht 😉), bin ich sicher, dass es tausende frÿdianer gibt, die Dich in Massen damit versorgen würden 😅
Was? Du pflanzt freiwilig Giersch in deinen Garten? 🤔
