As discussed at https://fryd.link/3yfWwkn8i7b, mice also like to gnaw through the thin hoses connected to Blumat drippers, presumably in search of water. I tried out two different types of cable protection: flexible wire mesh, like the shielding used on electrical cables, and a continuous mesh. The latter is quite sturdy, but it’s also harder to install, and you need two pieces that fit exactly. The mesh is flexible in diameter and cheaper. Using a long Allen wrench or metal rod, you can stretch it enough to slide the hose through. The ends fray slightly, though, so I applied some Pattex around them. After that, with a bit of fiddling, I managed to get it through the dripper. It’s also adjustable. The big question now is whether water will drip as soon as the cone dries out. I’ve pulled it out of the soil and am keeping an eye on it...
