Sowing & planting in April
Spring is here!
April marks the start of the new gardening season, and from now on you can get busy sowing and planting again.
Sowing & planting under protection

Under glass: Many vegetable plants need a lot of warmth and it is still too cold for them to grow unprotected in April. However, you can sow tomatoes, celery, peppers, cucumbers, zucchinis, broccoli and beans in a cold frame or greenhouse. Under foil: Salads, fennel and cabbages (cauliflower, kohlrabi, Brussels sprouts, savoy cabbage, white and red cabbage) are not as sensitive to the cold, but they will develop much faster in a foil tunnel or similar.
Sowing & planting outdoors

For many vegetable plants and herbs, the first warmth of spring is enough and they can now grow outdoors. From April, you can sow spinach, peas, cabbage, radishes, radishes, turnips, onions, leeks, chard, beet, carrots, black salsify, aromatic herbs (cress, chervil, dill, borage, rocket, purslane, parsley, caraway, spoonwort) directly into the bed. It is also time to plant strawberries, potatoes, cabbage and perennial herbs (lemon balm, tarragon, chives, lovage, tea fennel, peppermint, sage, oregano, thyme, lavender, mountain savory, hyssop, mountain rue) in the garden.
