The 'Berlicum' variety is an old Italian storage carrot. It produces long (approx. 20 cm), cylindrical, blunt, orange-red roots with an excellent flavor. Juicy, crunchy, sweet and spicy. This carrot variety is of the Nantaise type. The carrots ripen relatively early and are also suitable for early beds and successive sowing throughout the summer. The variety is resistant to carrot blight and also stores well. As a storage carrot, it should only be harvested when the foliage turns yellow/red at the tips.
Non hybrid
Frostproof
Culture period 70 - 120 days. Germination 4-14 days at 8-14°C. Carrots prefer deep, loose soil with a high humus content and a good supply of nutrients. Early and summer carrots should be sown as early as possible from mid-February, as germination at 5°C takes up to 45 days. The seedlings grow very slowly and need a lot of attention at the beginning so that they are not overgrown by weeds. It is a good idea to sow a row of radishes next to each row of carrots as marker seed. After germination, the seedlings should be thinned out.
