Also known as 'De Guérande' or 'Oxheart'. This old carrot variety is characterized by its speed of development and the dimensions it reaches. It produces red-orange roots, often as wide as they are long (4-10cm). This old French variety is older than a century. In Vilmorin-Andrieux's book 'Les Plantes Potagères' it is mentioned as 'Carotte rouge demi-courte obtuse de Guérande'. The Anglo-Saxons call it 'Oxheart', which means oxheart. Because it is shorter than the usual carrots, it also thrives very well on shallow and heavy soils where the usual carrots cannot be grown or can only be grown with difficulty. They can be grown for the summer harvest or for winter storage, where they keep well.
Non hybrid
Not frost resistant
Sow directly outdoors in finely loosened soil, in rows 25 cm apart. Make a groove a few cm deep, moisten slightly with a watering can and spread the carrot seeds thinly. Cover with approx. 5-10 mm of soil. Avoid areas with fresh organic fertilizer due to carrot fly. As soon as the plants have 3 true leaves, thin out/transplant to 5 cm and then to 8-10 cm.
