Growing tips

Pre-cultivation: From April 1 cm deep in pots or direct sowing from May. As cucumbers are quite sensitive to the cold, you should only plant them out after the Ice Saints. They also need a lot of warmth while they are growing and require a constant supply of water. Stress conditions such as temperature fluctuations, lack of water or frequent touching lead to the formation of bitter substances. A cultivation break of 3-4 years should be observed. Cucumbers must be able to hold on, as they form long tendrils (2-4 m). Regular harvesting increases the yield as more new flowers are formed. Tip: Topping the main shoots encourages branching and the development of female flowers, i.e. fruit.
