Ros de Mallorca comes from the islands of Mallorca, "Ros" means blond, which describes the color during ripening. The plant forms extremely large, long pods. These are thick-walled, very juicy and have a wonderfully aromatic and sweet taste. The fruits are initially light green-yellowish and only turn red when fully ripe, which is the right time to harvest them. A very good pointed bell pepper with practically no heat. The variety is traditionally used to make sobrassada, an air-dried spreadable raw sausage. It is suitable for frying and also very good for eating fresh. The plant is very productive and also produces plenty of fruit outdoors.
Non hybrid
Not frost resistant
You should grow peppers in nutrient-rich soil in a sunny location. For a rich harvest, the first flower (terminal bud/'king flower') should be broken off. This promotes flower and fruit formation on the side shoots. Pull the plants with 3-4 shoots and remove the remaining shoots. In Central Europe, cultivation is usually annual, but the highest yield is only achieved 2-3 years after planting. To achieve this, the plant must be overwintered indoors. The fruit is harvested from July to September, depending on the variety and weather conditions.
