Corn is an annual, light- and heat-loving crop from the sweet grass family. There are great differences between the varieties in terms of color, shape and size of the cobs as well as the growth height of the plants. Corn can serve as a windbreak for sensitive plants. The creamy white popcorn variety with the largest kernels and the longest cobs. The individual popcorn flakes are correspondingly large. A tip for harvesting: The kernels come off the cob easily if you always rub two cobs together.
Non hybrid
Not frost resistant
Corn can be sown directly into the bed or grown as seedlings in pots. It is very sensitive to frost, i.e. it can only be sown or planted in the bed after the Ice Saints. Corn also loves sun and warmth, so look for a sunny spot in the garden. It is pollinated by the wind, which means you should cultivate several plants next to each other to guarantee optimal pollination. By mounding up soil around the stems, you increase the stability of the plants. This allows them to develop supporting roots with which they can hold on.
