Corn can be sown directly into the bed or grown as seedlings in pots. It is very sensitive to frost, i.e. it can only be sown or planted in the bed after the Ice Saints. Corn also loves sun and warmth, so look for a sunny spot in the garden. It is pollinated by the wind, which means you should cultivate several plants next to each other to guarantee optimal pollination. By mounding up soil around the stems, you increase the stability of the plants. This allows them to develop supporting roots with which they can hold on.
Non hybrid
Not frost resistant
A dwarf sweetcorn from Alaska, with an extremely short cultivation period of just 55 days. 'Yucon Chief' is also ideal for balcony pots. This sweetcorn remains quite small with a height of around one meter. A plant develops 3-5 cobs, which grow to a length of around 10 to 12 cm. They can be harvested after 55 days. The corn kernels should still be milk-ripe, which is when they taste best.
