This very old variety is the result of the selection of many generations of Native Americans of the Abenaki tribe in northern Vermont. This variety forms ears consisting of golden yellow, dark brown or burnt orange grains. The 17-22 cm long, narrow ears have 8 complete rows. Very adapted to the cold climate. In the kitchen, the dried grains are processed into semolina or cornmeal.
Non hybrid
Not frost resistant
Corn can be sown directly into the bed or grown as seedlings in pots. It is very sensitive to frost, i.e. it can only be sown or planted in the bed after the Ice Saints. Corn also loves sun and warmth, so look for a sunny spot in the garden. It is pollinated by the wind, which means you should cultivate several plants next to each other to guarantee optimal pollination. By mounding up soil around the stems, you increase the stability of the plants. This allows them to develop supporting roots with which they can hold on.
