The Yellow Furry Boar tomato is a unique variety developed by Brad Gates from Wild Boar Farms in California. It owes its name to the characteristic, slightly hairy skin of the fruit, which makes it rare among tomatoes. The round to flattened fruits are medium-sized, weigh 60 to 120 grams and have an intense yellow color with green stripes that turn golden when ripe. This variety is characterized by juicy, yellow-white flesh with a mild taste and a delicate sweetness, making it ideal for eating raw and in salads. They are juicy, fruity, sweet and have an intense tomato flavor. This indeterminate, climbing tomato variety reaches a height of approx. 200 cm and spreads slightly depending on how it is trained and the choice of support. Yellow Furry Boar ripens around 80 days after planting and is popular with collectors of rare tomato varieties due to its unusual structure and sweet taste. This is a relatively new variety, created for exceptional aesthetic and flavor values and distinguished from other tomatoes by its unusual, matte, glossy skin. Thanks to high yields until the first frost, it is highly valued in hobby cultivation.
Non hybrid
Not frost resistant
🌱 1. location & climate - Plenty of sun - at least 6-8 hours a day. - Ideal: sheltered, warm place (house wall, greenhouse, foil tunnel). - The furry shell provides some protection from the sun, but not from rain → better covered. Soil & substrate 🪴 2. - Loose, humusy, nutrient-rich. - pH 6.2-6.8. - Good drainage is important, otherwise the fruit will burst. 🌿 3. planting distance - 60-70 cm between plants. - It grows widely if not pruned out. 📏 4. growth & pinching out - Indeterminate → continues to grow throughout the season. - Recommendation for optimal harvest: ◦ Leave 1-2 shoots standing. ◦ Remove all other stingy shoots regularly. - Without thinning, it will grow huge and produce less concentrated fruit. 🪜 5. support - Stable spiral rods or string in the greenhouse. - Fruits hang heavily → good fixation necessary. 💧 6. watering - Keep evenly moist. - Only water in the morning. - Never over the leaves → risk of fungus. 🍅 7 Fertilization - When planting: compost + some organic tomato fertilizer. - From the start of flowering: top up with fertilizer every 10-14 days. - It is high-yielding, so rather "hungry". 🛡️ 8. Diseases & special features - The furry skin easily protects against sunburn. - Nevertheless: ◦ Avoid rain ◦ Plant in an airy place ◦ Mulch to prevent soil moisture fluctuations - Late ripening (80 days) → bring forward early in cool summers 🍽️ 9. Harvest & taste - Ripe when the green stripes turn golden. - Very sweet, mild, juicy - perfect for salads. - Skin remains dull and slightly furry (varietal characteristic).
