Flawless round tomatoes, deep red-pink and burst-resistant. They have an intense tomato flavor with a slight sweetness and are very juicy. Rutgers was bred in 1928 in New Jersey at the Agricultural Experiment Station as a seed-resistant variety. In 1943 there was an "improved" version: the "Rutgers Improved". It ripens a little earlier and is more productive. This version is available today under the old name Rutgers. Dominated the tomato market in the 50s and 60s with a share of sometimes up to 60%. Growing height: 1.8 m/2 yd. Fruits: 100-250 g. Tolerant to late blight and blossom end rot. Old variety.
Non hybrid
Not frost resistant
Germination in 8-14 days at 20-25°C/68-77°F. Vigorous growth. Matures medium early, 70 to 84 days. Further growing tips for the pole tomato variety.
