The medium-sized blue-black meat and salad tomato "Blue Streak", originally from the USA, is a very successful variety. The fruits are similar in color to the blue "Bosque blue" vine tomato, but they are usually much larger. When ripe, the initially dark blue fruits turn almost black. Only on the side facing away from the sun do they remain striped and marbled in red or dark red and black. Fruit weight: up to 300g. Taste: fruity, sweet-aromatic. Blue Streak" bushes grow to a height of 150 cm/1.6 yd and are quite robust against late blight. A relatively thick skin makes the fruit burst-resistant. The flesh is an intense red.

Germination temperature: 20-25°C/68-77°F. Germination period: 5-14 days. General: Tomatoes require a lot of light, warmth, water and nutrients. They are grown from seed from March onwards on the windowsill. The seedlings should be planted deep, up to the first leaf base, so that the root system is enlarged by additional lateral roots. Unlike most other crops, tomatoes should always be planted in the same place. Under-sowing with low-growing plants is a good option.
