Description

The long and rich flowering shrub of Mexican oregano (Poliomintha longiflora) comes from southern North America and is kept in our country as a container plant. The long flowers, first white, then pink, are edible and very decorative. The small oval leaves have an intense peppery oregano aroma when fresh or dried. Mexican oregano is highly prized as a spice by the Hopi Indians. Sunny locations and good water drainage in containers are prerequisites for good thriving. Bee friendly.

Growing tips

It grows shrubby to overhanging, can be cultivated well in the tub and can also be harvested in winter. However, it is not hardy and must be wintered indoors at 10-20°C or protected with branches or fleece. It likes it sunny and warm. Do not over water. Light germinator.
