Butterhead lettuce 'Tom Thumb' is an old English early variety (from 1850) with small, firm, crisp round heads about the size of a grapefruit with tender green, slightly curled leaves and a beautiful, light green, tender heart. It is ideal for small gardens, containers or window boxes and is the perfect size for a one-person salad. It is an excellent summer salad as it does not bolt easily in warmer temperatures.
Non hybrid
Not frost resistant
Sow successively from March to August outdoors. Sowing depth: 6 - 12 mm in rows approx. 20 - 30 cm apart. Germination in 7-14 days at 4-16°C. Thin out when the seedlings are approx. 2 cm tall. Further growing tips in the garden lettuce section.
