Closed romaine lettuce or lettuce with ties. Robust and weather-resistant, even in adverse weather conditions. As with lettuce, the planting time for the stalks begins in April. They can be harvested from May. However, the plants then have more leaves and less stalk than in the fall. This versatility has its customers, as some love the leaves and use the early harvest, while others want the largest possible stalks and harvest later. The Kasseler Strünkchen is just as suitable as a fresh vegetable as it is for storing. Once prepared, it is easy to freeze - see the recipe suggestion opposite. The best harvest time is from July to mid-September. The stalks reach a height of 50 to 60 cm and a thickness of 2 to 7 cm, depending on the variety and standing time. The plant is not resistant to mildew and aphids and should therefore be kept separate from other lettuce and vegetable plants.
Non hybrid
Frostproof
Water if necessary in dry conditions. Harvest the young leaves of the Kasseler Strünkchen first and the stem later in the year, before flowering.
