Aquilegia caerulea Spring Magic 'Navy and White', the bicolored columbine, combines classic garden romance with modern compactness and displays elegant, nodding flowers with deep navy blue outer petals and a pure white center in spring. The distinctive spurs underline the delicate character of the flowering perennial, which reliably brings color to the border from April to June. The finely lobed, blue-green foliage forms dense, clump-like cushions and also provides decorative accents before and after flowering. With its upright, yet compact growth of around 30-40 cm in height, this garden perennial is ideal for the foreground in the herbaceous border, for the cottage garden, the rock garden and as a charming container plant on the patio and balcony. When planted in groups, the flowering shrub character of this ornamental perennial creates a harmonious effect; as a small solitary plant in the front garden, it provides a targeted eye-catcher along paths or entrances. Sunny to semi-shady locations with well-drained, humus-rich and evenly fresh soil are preferred; short dry spells are tolerated, waterlogging should be avoided. Pruning the dead stems promotes clean re-flowering and keeps the plant compact; occasional applications of fertilizer in spring boost vitality and flowering. This hardy, seasonal perennial is easy to care for, long-lasting and combines excellently with early bulbs, grasses and other flowering perennials, creating a natural yet structured garden appearance. As a cut flower, it also shows off its nostalgic charm in vase arrangements.
