'Globo' is a large, sweet, medium-early, white-skinned vegetable onion variety. A rarity from Hungary. Onions of the Globo variety grow in the classic onion shape and typically weigh around 300 grams, but can reportedly weigh up to 1 kg if sown early in very nutrient-rich soil and with appropriate care. The mild and tender onion is very suitable for eating raw in salads.
Non hybrid
Frostproof
Sow from early March to mid-April. Row spacing approx. 25 cm, sowing depth 2 cm. The onions are mature when the leaves turn brown and dry out, but can of course be harvested earlier for fresh consumption. Onions like heavy, calcareous clay soil. Globo matures fully in about 24 weeks from sowing, which is indicated by wilting foliage. About two weeks after the onion leaves turn yellow, the onions should be harvested on a day that is as dry as possible.
