A Japanese specialty, to be used like the variety Padron, but without isolated spicy fruits. Harvested for preparation as tapas are the still green fruits about 5 cm/2 in in size. These can be fried in a little olive oil and served with salt. When fully grown, the fruits are medium sized, somewhat ribbed, taper to a point, are red in color but thinner fleshed than the young fruits, Yielding, medium early, needs a warm sunny spot. (From Bobby-Seeds).
Non hybrid
It is sometimes recommended to soak the seeds before germination, as this should favor germination. Cover the seeds only lightly with soil for germination, keep them evenly moist but not wet and warm (min. 20°C/68°F, more likely 25°C/77°F). A bright location is also important. After germination, place slightly colder. Prick out as soon as 2-4 true leaves are present. Harden off before planting out. When the first fruits start to form, fertilize about 1 time a week. A consistent water supply is also important. The first flower can be broken out to encourage the formation of more fruit. Wind-protected locations are advantageous. Support shoots if necessary.
