This variety comes from the Czech Republic and ripens from green to black to dark red. The fruits are similar to those of a jalapeno chili in shape; they are pendulous, thick-fleshed and grow to about 6 - 8 cm long. The chilies are aromatic and sweet with only mild heat and ripen relatively early. If they are very exposed to the sun, they may retain their black coloration. Czech Black Chili plants grow bushy and reach about 75 cm tall. They are very productive and the chilies are usually excellent for drying and making (black) chili powder after harvest. Otherwise, we recommend pickling the fruits or, for example, stuffing them with sheep's or goat's cheese and grilling or baking them.
