Spring onions come from Asia, where they are the alternative to leeks with their finer qualities. Their taste is delicate and milder, culture is much faster and easier thanks to direct seeding outdoors. The planting is not necessary and also the subsequent piling. Tonda Musona can be sown even in autumn, tolerates frost and rewards the small effort with extremely early harvest already in April. If you still want to try in the fall, you can enjoy delicious onion foliage as a seasoning for salads, soups and raw vegetables. Spring onions are very popular in modern cuisine. They can be used in a variety of ways, steamed like leeks, raw as an unobtrusive seasoning that adds an elegant character to salads, soups and raw vegetables. Tonda Musona produces 30-40 cm tall, slender shallots with 1.5 to 2 cm thick slender white shafts and light bulb formation. The variety ripens particularly early. Site requirements: Leek onions thrive in any sunny to semi-shady spot in the garden, preferably protected from the wind. The soil should be loose and rich in nutrients.

Tips: You can also use empty cold frames or unheated greenhouses with spring onions.
