Also known as the "eternal onion", the hardy onion "Kalgaro" (Allium cepa) always has soft and long stems without a pronounced bulbous body. The foliage or bulbs can be cut all year round, they are delicious fresh but can also be frozen.
Non hybrid
Frostproof
Sow directly into the open ground from the end of March to the beginning of August to a depth of 1 cm and in rows 25 cm apart. In the row approx. 8 - 10 cm. Press the seeds down well and keep them constantly moist. Move plants that are too close together. The mild onion aroma is particularly convincing for seasoning quark and cheese, for soups, meat and egg dishes. Spring onions grow back if the inner tubes/bulbs remain standing. Late sowings are overwintered. In spring, they can be harvested before the chives. The stem length can be increased by mounding several times. The onions are ready to harvest about 2 months after sowing.
