Winzwyade is perennial and hardy, so it can be grown as a permanent crop for many years. It sprouts in early spring and produces early harvests when most other crops are still waiting. The shallots (leaves, greens) can be used like chives or as a spicy leafy vegetable, while the tender little onions can be used like spring onions. Historically, the winzwyadne was used as a leek.
