Description

This very old rutabaga variety 'Laurentian' produces spherical roots with a diameter of up to 15 cm that have no obvious collar. The bright yellow skin with a dark purple tip contains light yellow flesh with a mild flavor and fine texture. This very old variety, originating from the USA, is a selection of the 'American Purple Top' variety introduced before 1920. Sowing: Sow in pots (March-May) in a bright place. Cover the seeds only lightly with soil. Transplant the plants into individual pots as soon as they have 3 to 4 leaves so that the roots can develop. After the last frosts, at the 5 to 6 leaf stage, transplant 40 cm apart in all directions. Sow outdoors (April-June) at a distance of 40 cm in all directions. Autumn sowing is possible in mild climatic regions, as the rutabaga tolerates frosts below - 10 °C. The roots can be harvested as required and keep best if they remain in the soil.
