Historic puffed bean variety, which was once reserved only for the American aristocracy (upper class). The beans are very light, almost white, when harvested in the semi-mature state, that is, when they are still soft. The dried seeds also have a very light, bright green color. They were considered more chic and noble than the ordinary puff beans with green color. The variety has a very long tradition: around 1300 it was brought from Portugal to England, where it was increasingly cultivated. With the repopulation of America, it then made its way across the great ocean, where it became the most sought-after broad bean variety of the time. Even Thomas Jefferson is said to have cherished them in his garden. They have a buttery, very slightly sweet taste reminiscent of chestnuts.
