Description

A traditional variety that produces dark red, attractive leaves and deep red, spherical turnips. The turnips have an intense flavor. The development of the turnips is somewhat slower. The leaves provide a nice color component for Baby Leaf. Suitable for winter storage. Use: Versatile: freshly grated in salads, pressed in mixed juices, steamed or pickled. The young leaves can be prepared fresh or cooked like chard. Beet contains a lot of iron and folic acid, but also oxalic acid.

Non hybrid

Frostproof

Growing tips

Suitable for direct sowing from the end of April, protect from frost to prevent bolting. Pre-planting is possible from the end of March (not necessary) in order to have the bed area available for other plants until planting out in June. Beet has a medium or even water requirement, prefers sunny (to semi-shady) locations and a loose, humus-rich, rather sandy soil. Harvest as soon as spots form on the leaves or before the first frost. Development period 3-4 months. Without the cabbage, they can be stored wrapped in sand for a few weeks. It is important to maintain a cultivation break of 4 years with other goosefoot plants.
