Description

Red Pear is an old, tall-growing and vigorous tomato. It produces lots of small, pear-shaped red fruits that are only 4-5 cm long. They grow on long panicles of often more than 10 tomatoes. The fruits are deliciously sweet and have a spicy, slightly acidic flavor. They are thin-skinned and can be used for drying, but are also good in mixed salads or as a snack tomato. In the USA, they are also known as "garden candy". It is very robust and bears fruit weighing around 20g well into the fall. A vigorous variety - bush height up to over 2 meters.

Non hybrid

Not frost resistant

Growing tips

This variety is an indeterminate variety, but does not need to be thinned out. Can be grown outdoors and in greenhouses. Also suitable for growing in pots. Tomatoes require a lot of light, warmth and nutrients. They are grown from seed from March onwards on the windowsill. The seedlings should be planted deep, up to the first leaf base, so that the root system is enlarged by additional lateral roots. Unlike most other crops, tomatoes should always be planted in the same place. The plants also need wooden/corrugated wire rods or a trellis to which you regularly tie them. This is the only way they can support the weight of the fruit. Under-sowing with low-growing plants is a good option.
