Description

A relatively delicate mint with lanceolate, pointed, strong green leaves that are somewhat furry on the underside. The stems are hairy, the flowers purple. This selection from the American herb nursery Hillary is clearly the sweetest of the mints in bud. The very mild aroma evokes the taste of bergamot and mandarin. A small amount of menthol has a refreshing and unobtrusive effect. An ideal dessert mint, but also suitable for drinks and fruit shakes. The pronounced bergamot aroma makes sweet lime mint the perfect mint for enhancing desserts. Teas, bowls and other drinks also taste wonderful when prepared with the mentholated, sweet mint. This American selection grows beautifully bushy and densely leafy. Its leaves have a slightly bluish sheen and planted in the border, e.g. between taller perennials such as Hemerocallis hybr. flambeau (daylily) and Lamium album (white deadnettle), they look very attractive and are a good pasture for bees and butterflies. The long, purple inflorescences are also edible and make a beautiful decoration for fruit salads. Together with a few leaves, they add a very special touch. It adds a great aroma to orange marmalades.
