Annual or perennial plant (depending on the variety) from the labiate family. Savory owes its name to its suitability for mixed cultivation with bush and runner beans and its use as a seasoning for bean dishes. Essential oils provide an intentisven fragrance. A distinction is made between winter or mountain savory and summer savory.
Non hybrid
Not frost resistant
Savory is a light germinator and the seeds should be sown on top of the soil, lightly pressed down and watered. There are two very different groups of varieties: Winter savory is perennial and can be harvested all year round. Summer savory is sown anew each year and harvested over the summer months. Sowing the very small seeds over a wide area produces a natural carpet of plants. To harvest, cut off the branches just above the soil surface. Subsequent sowing is possible until the beginning of July. Savory is very drought-resistant.
