Imperial Crown is a parsnip variety from Great Britain, the roots taste sweet and spicy. At the top, the roots are broad-shouldered towards the bottom, becoming narrower, conical in shape. Whether raw as a finely shredded salad or briefly roasted, these parsnips taste good in every conceivable way of preparation. Sowing is done in 1 - 2 cm deep grooves, the seeds are only lightly pressed. Parsnips have similar requirements as carrots and need a loose, humus-rich soil. Once the plantlets have germinated, they can be left to their own devices; they will stand up to any weather. By October, parsnips are ready to harvest, but they can remain in the bed because the plants are hardy. A vegetable for the winter gardener who gets fresh what is needed at the moment
