This professional top cultivar produces high yields of round tubers with a small root set, which facilitates cleaning. Its white firm flesh is easy to slice and does not discolor during processing. The taste is mildly spicy and very pleasant. Resistance to shooting, which is triggered by too low temperatures after planting (early June), is crucial for growing success. The tubers can be stored for a long time in a cool cellar. The variety 'Prinz' is also known for the strong spicy flavor of its fresh foliage, which can be harvested as early as July (forgoing the development of large tubers). Celery leaves and tubers are used as soup greens. 'Prince' can be grown not only outdoors but also in greenhouses and under foil. Sowing date March to mid-April Sowing location indoors Sowing distance Pricking out in trays or pots, planting in late May-early. June Planting distance 40 x 40 cm Germination temperature (= soil temperature) 18 to 22 °C Germination period 10 to 15 days Location Celery needs plenty of light, full sun and a particularly nutrient-rich, humus-rich and preferably moist garden soil. It thrives particularly well in heavy loamy soils. Harvest bunches from July, tubers September to November
