Celery is descended from wild celery and has been known since ancient times in the Mediterranean region as an effective and delicious medicinal plant. It is said to have an aphrodisiac effect and its ingredients are considered anti-inflammatory and diuretic. Wild celery originates from the nutrient-rich calcareous and saline marshy soils of the European Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts.
