Description

Verdi - Juicy, sweet strawberries with a consistent yield. Medium-early variety from the Fresh Forward breeding program. Its lime-green leaves give our delicious, heat-resistant strawberry plant its name. Verdi is a medium-early strawberry plant with a consistent yield throughout June. With its lime-green, glossy leaves, it produces deep red, tasty strawberries. Thanks to its high Brix value (sugar content) and juicy flesh, it is aromatically sweet and bears large, long, cone-shaped berries. Their upright growing fruits make them easy to pick. Thanks to their good shelf life, Verdi strawberries can be stored in the fridge for 1-2 days. The Verdi strawberry plant is particularly heat-resistant and robust. It is resistant to rhizome rot and Verticillium wilt and is also tolerant to mildew. Due to its low nitrogen requirement, this medium-early variety is also suitable for cultivation on older soils. Self-pollinating.

Growing tips

Verdi is very suitable for growing outdoors and in tunnels. The Verdi strawberry plant is particularly heat-resistant and robust. It is resistant to rhizome rot and Verticillium wilt and is also tolerant to mildew. Due to its low nitrogen requirement, this medium-early variety is also suitable for cultivation on older soils. To grow strawberries in the garden, you can either plant purchased young plants or take cuttings from existing plants. These are formed on long shoots, so-called stolons. The best planting time is July/August, so the plant has enough time to grow strong for a good harvest the following year. Propagation by seeds is also possible; these are located on the outside of the so-called aggregate nut fruit. During growth and in dry weather (especially during fruiting), strawberries need plenty of water. From May onwards, you can spread straw as mulch between the plants to protect them from moisture and gray mould and to keep weeds at bay.
