Black Peter is an old variety that originated in the Ore Mountains. It is one of the darkest strawberries available. The flesh is a deep dark red, almost black. It is one of the late varieties, ripening between July and August, so the berries are not at risk from late frosts. The fruits are medium-sized and very aromatic. They are self-fertile. The extremely dark color of the strawberries can only be achieved when they are overripe and the strawberries do not become equally dark on all soils.
