Description

Ararat basil is a purple basil variety with metallic grey-purple to dark purple and green mottled or bicolour leaves and a strong anise-licorice flavour. Developed in Israel, it is used in culinary dishes like salads and pasta, as well as for ornamental purposes. Its purple stems are semi-thick and fibrous.

Growing tips

plant it in full sun with well-draining soil, water consistently to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged, and harvest regularly by pinching off the tips to encourage bushier growth. Feed with a liquid fertilizer during the growing season and remove any flower buds to maintain leaf flavour.
