Costates/Costata Romanesco forms long, green-speckled, striped fruits, which when young show clearly protruding light green-yellowish ribs. Decorative, star-shaped cross-section. Slightly sweet taste. Remain fresh for up to 12 weeks (do not store next to fruit or below 8 degrees). It has a medium-late fruit set. A bushy fancier variety. The flowers of this zucchini are also edible.
Non hybrid
Not frost resistant
Harden off before planting. Likes warm, wind-protected locations. Sensitive to frost. Several plants can pollinate each other. Harvest regularly (from 15 cm) so that new fruits form continuously. Fertilize and water regularly. Follow crop rotation. Home-grown seeds are strongly discouraged for zucchini because the toxic bitter substance cucurbitacin can form. Mixed cultivation with borage promotes pollination. Pumpkins and zucchinis of the same species can interbreed, zucchini can become bitter and inedible or poisonous (due to so-called curcurbitacins).
