Bag-shaped/round zucchini with light green skin and thin, dark green stripes from the stem. Tatume is a variety from the Mexican cuisine. The fruits are usually eaten young as zucchini, but it is also possible to let them ripen and then use them like a squash. Climbing plant! (Deaflora)
Non hybrid
Not frost resistant
Is actually easy to grow. Harden off before planting. Likes warm, wind-protected locations. Sensitive to frost. Several plants can pollinate each other. Harvest regularly so that new fruits are formed continuously. Fertilize and water regularly. Follow crop rotation. Home-grown seeds are strongly discouraged for zucchini because the toxic bitter substance cucurbitacin can form. Mixed cultivation with borage promotes pollination. Pumpkins and zucchinis of the same species can interbreed, zucchini can become bitter and inedible or poisonous (due to so-called curcurbitacins).
