Scarlet Emperor was introduced to the market in 1906 as a wonderfully red-flowering, tasty scarlet runner bean. The fully-grown, green pods have strings, but these can be pulled off easily. The dried, variegated seeds have an intense flavor and are delicious. Robust variety, also suitable for harsh and rainy locations.
Non hybrid
Not frost resistant
Germination at 15-20°C after 8-12 days. Requires climbing support & possibly wind protection. Place approx. 3-9 beans per nest around the poles, which should be approx. 40-80 cm apart, depending on the number of beans per nest. Mounding improves the stability.
