Description

Asparagus belongs to the asparagus family (Asparagaceae). The perennial shrub grows mainly underground. The rootstock overwinters and sprouts anew in spring. These young shoots are harvested as asparagus. After harvesting, the cut shoots form asparagus greens or asparagus cabbage.

Non hybrid

Not frost resistant

Growing tips

To make the asparagus vegetable patch winter-proof, cut the yellowed stems with the leaves very deeply, preferably just below the surface of the soil, and then remove these parts of the plant. This prevents pest infestation. After covering with mulch or compost, the asparagus vegetable patch is ready for the new season.
