This robust variety was discovered by Madalene Hill in Arp, Texas, and has since been considered the hardiest rosemary. It can withstand temperatures down to -22°C for short periods. Very gray-leaved form with somewhat spreading growth. Shoot growth finishes fairly early in the garden season - possibly an indication of suitability for locations at risk of early/late frost. Well suited to areas where rosemary does not survive in summer due to hot and humid weather. Good, fresh aroma. Light blue flowers. Habitat: Prefers a sunny location with well-drained, sandy or loamy soil. Watering: Keep the soil fresh, but avoid waterlogging. Fertilization: A normal, moderately nutrient-rich soil is sufficient. Pruning: Rosemary 'Arp' is tolerant of pruning and should be cut back in spring to encourage bushy growth. Use: The leaves are edible and can be used in the kitchen for tea, salads and as a seasoning plant.
