Not just any climbing plant - but one with magnificent flowers and edible fruit! A rarity in the climbing plant range that is well worth discovering! The red-flowering cleft basket, also known as the cleft cuppa, is a picturesque climber for trellises on house walls, pergolas, fences or garden trees - and also scores points for its flower and fruit decoration! The climbing plant often produces an abundance of deep wine-red, cup-shaped flowers as early as April, but no later than May. Not only do they look pretty, but they also attract numerous beneficial insects such as bees to our garden! A spectacle that we can often enjoy well into June. But that's not all: bright red to orange berries develop from the flowers in September and October! These edible fruits not only look tempting and can be eaten raw or cooked, but are also considered an absolute superfood. They are packed with coveted vitamin E and valuable ingredients such as iron, copper and magnesium. Incidentally, it's not just us who enjoy this fruit, but also our local garden birds!
